As David completed this last race, breaking the high school record was less important than the deep reflection in that moment.

As David took lap swim, hour after hour, year after year, culminating in approximately 5,000 miles swam between age 5 and 18, he was unknowingly being readied for a near death experience in a Daytona FL beach rip current.   He couldn’t express in words, but felt that he was being prepared to use this life skill and higher level of physical conditioning.

He reflected on how fortunate he was to have a disciplined, quiet environment all those years, empowering him to Remember something nestled deep within his DNA.   The Feel of a gentle rain falling on his back during summer lap swim outside and the sound of the current rushing by his ears, helped him to remember how his ancestors survived the Indigenous Genocide of North America, beginning around 1492 and unfortunately still very much active in 2020.
